Maple Mahjong is a mahjong solitaire game. You play it on the web at mahjong.maple.meitaim.dev, or in the Android app from Google Play. This policy covers both.

What the game keeps

The game has no accounts, and we have no database of players. The game keeps this in your device's local storage:

That data never reaches us. If backup is on for your Android device, Android Auto Backup may copy the app's data to the backup in your Google account.

Ads in the Android app

The web version shows no ads. The Android app shows ads from Google AdMob: rewarded ads that you choose to watch for a hint, and full-screen ads after you clear a board. Full-screen ads start only after your first boards, and come at most once every few boards and every few minutes.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form before any ad. Where that applies, a Privacy choices button appears in the game's Privacy menu, the shield at the top. It opens the form again, so you can change your choice at any time.

Who handles your data

Cloudflare
Delivers the web version and protects it from abuse, on our behalf. It may log each request, with your IP address, the page, the time and your browser's user agent string, to run and protect the service. Read the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Google AdMob
Shows the ads and the consent form in the Android app, and decides for itself how it uses the data. Google collects your approximate location from your IP address, device identifiers such as the advertising ID and the app set ID, how you use the app, and crash logs and diagnostics. Google uses them for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. Read the Google privacy policy.

Why, and on what basis

To deliver and protect the web version
The basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the game available and safe.
To show personalised ads
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app uses device identifiers and shows personalised ads only with your consent. You can withdraw it at any time with the Privacy choices button.
To show ads without your consent
Without your consent, Google shows limited ads, which work without device identifiers. The basis is our legitimate interest in paying for a free game with ads.

You do not have to give us any data. Without your consent you get limited ads, and the game still works.

How long data is kept

Request logs
Cloudflare keeps them for up to 7 days.
Game data on your device
Kept until you clear the site's data or the app's storage, or uninstall the app.
Your consent choice
Kept on your device until you change it or clear the app's storage.
Data Google collects
Kept as described in how Google retains data.
Your advertising ID
To delete it, open your Android settings, then Google, then Ads, and tap Delete advertising ID. On some devices the setting is under Privacy, then Ads.

Transfers outside the EEA

Google and Cloudflare may process data outside the EEA, including in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Security

The game and the app send data only over HTTPS, which encrypts it in transit. We run no database of players, so we hold no store of your data that could leak.

Age

Maple Mahjong is meant for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children.

Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to:

We answer within one month. If a request is complex we may extend that by two further months, and we tell you inside the first month if we do. If we take no action, we tell you why inside the first month.

You may also complain to the supervisory authority in Estonia (Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate), or to the one where you live.

To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@meitaim.dev.

US state privacy rights

The Android app shares these categories of personal information with Google for advertising:

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, this can count as selling or sharing for targeted advertising. To opt out, use the Privacy choices form in the app where it is offered. You can also delete your advertising ID: open your Android settings, then Google, then Ads, and tap Delete advertising ID. Apps then cannot use it to show you personalised ads. You may also have the right to know, correct and delete your personal information: write to privacy@meitaim.dev. We do not treat you differently for using these rights.

Changes

We may change this policy. The date at the top of this page is the date of the version you are reading.
